Dog : New Drug in Northern Ireland

I chose to analyze an article written by Lisa O’Caroll ''The new drugs : Northern Ireland gateway for £150m illegal puppy trade'' published on October 20,2021 at 14.48 in the Britannic journal The Guardian. This article talks about the illegal traffic of dogs in Northern Ireland.

For me, the headline is very clear, the problem is well presented and explained without taking sides, the editor is subjective.

Concerning the photo, I think that it is present to denounce the mistreatments, the animal exploitations made towards the dogs. It's a call for help that aims to sensitize the spectator so that it becomes aware of the gravity of the situation (and thus that it acts) put forward by the number of dogs locked up in the cage and by that in the foreground, the sad glance wanting to leave.

In my opinion, the article is intelligently constructed since the sources are clearly cited allowing the reader to know where the information comes from which are for the most part reliable sources : BBC, Ulster society, USPCA. The presence of figures, reports, different verifications,... reinforce the information allowing the reader to have confidence and thus to continue his reading.

In addition, the article presents the opinions of several organizations and individuals, which allows the reader to have several points of view and is therefore free to choose his or her own.

For me, the subject is explained chronologically, all the facts are stated and the reader understands where such a conclusion comes from. Many gradations are used to intensify the problems raised and to denounce as many as possible, which in my opinion allows the reader to react.

Concerning the second picture, I think it is not very clear and therefore not useful, fortunately there is an explanatory sentence below.

Finally, I think that the article could have been shorter because the information is important but can be condensed.

We can conclude that this article is clear and subjective because it exposes opinions against traffic justified by examples. There is therefore a blatant taking of sides which has for main goal to denounce this traffic to make things change since it exposes the lack of law against these horrible acts.
